Collection: Hyundai Genesis Intercooler

Long drives are exciting and fun. You will appreciate your car more as it takes you to various places. You also rely on your vehicle to get to your appointments on time. As you drive on the interstate, you will encounter some cars pulling to the side with white smoke coming from the hood. Overheating is a common problem on long drives. How confident are you that your vehicle will not overheat on your next trip?

The stock radiator has a good cooling efficiency that you can trust on long drives. But if you upgrade to a turbo engine, you must also reinforce the radiator with an intercooler. Supercharged engines have high pressure and high temperature. They require a more powerful cooling process, which the stock radiator could not provide.

Two Main Types of Intercooler

Air-to-Air Intercooler

An air to air intercooler utilizes cold air to cool down the hot air from the engine. It uses incoming airflow from vehicle speed for the cooling process. Thus, it becomes more efficient as you increase the speed of the car.

An air-to-air intercooler usually has a larger built. But it is a safety factor to maximize the surface area and improve the cooling process. However, placement is a challenge. You should mount it where cold airflow to the tubes and fins are constant. The device must be able to capture enough cold air for better performance.

Liquid-to-Air Intercooler

A liquid to air intercooler utilizes the engine coolant for the heat transfer. Since water has a higher thermal conductivity compared to air, heat transfer is more efficient. It has a more complex system that requires several fittings, like a fluid reservoir and a water pump. The liquid to air is more efficient than the air to air intercooler. But it’s more expensive, as well. You may spend up to three times the cost of the latter.

Many high-powered vehicles are using the liquid-to-air intercooler. They need a more effective cooling process since they emit an immense volume of heat. Turbo cars will do well with this upgrade.

How Can an Intercooler Upgrade Add Horsepower?

Intercoolers can increase power by reducing the temperature. This is a vital upgrade, not just for turbo cars. Regular engines can also benefit from better cooling effects of the intercooler.

Take note that cooler air has more oxygen. More oxygen increases the ability to burn more fuel. Thus, improving the air/fuel ratio. Good AFR increases power output. So, if you want to enhance the engine performance, a Hyundai Genesis Coupe intercooler upgrade is a great way to start.

Some upgrades may require a crash bar removal. Others will need changes to the front bumper. But there are performance parts with the same dimensions as the stock. Make sure to shop for aftermarket parts that can fit in the compact engine bay to reduce costs.
